“Playing from the heart” is what happens when you listen to your “Inner Audience Member” as you play. Your Inner Audience Member is the part of you that generates feelings about what you see, hear, and do. It’s your heart-gut emotional center. It’s the HEART of playing from the heart!
If you listen to your Inner Audience Member as you play, your performances will become soulful, electric, and alive. If you ignore your Inner Audience Member when you play, your performances will be mechanical, boring, and stiff. So, you’d better get to know your Inner Audience Member!
BONUS! I play my violin for a live demonstration of the Inner Audience Member.
Day 12 of 100 Days of Soulforce:
– What is the Inner Audience Member and why is it important?
– Why the Inner Audience Member is crucial to playing from the heart
– How “trying to get it right” actually shuts off your emotional connection
– A demo with live music so you can feel your own Inner Audience Member in action
– The “interbeing-ness” of your Inner Audience Member and that of your audiences
– A performance of “Joseph, Joseph” – a Gypsy Jazz song that I love

What’s “100 Days of Soulforce”?
I’m embarking on a mission to spread the word about Soulforce Performing Arts because I believe it is a needed message for artists of all kinds in our times. To that end, I’m making 100 videos over the coming 100 days (or so) to explain all the different angles and ideas, and to hopefully spark inspiration in you! Each video will have inspirational and practical ideas for you to bring more Soulforce to your life as a performing artist.
These ideas are a part of my upcoming book: “Soulforce Performance Arts: Redefining Artistic Performance, Practice, and Pedagogy in a World That’s Lost Its Mind.” Subscribers to my newsletter will get early access and special perks!
