You try to have good posture, but then why do your shoulders or back still hurt? You try to fix your slump by sitting up straight, but then you find yourself back in that slump 5 minutes later. You can’t find a comfortable way to sit or stand, and are constantly shifting around, trying to find some release. What to do?
The key to posture is understanding the difference between *quality* and *direction* of movement. Quality has to do with whether you’re getting more tight or more free. Direction has to do with whether you’re moving more up and out, or more down and in.
Typical posture is up and tight. Because it’s tight, it’s going to feel uncomfortable. What you want is to be *up and free*. Watch to experience this for yourself!
Day 17 of 100 Days of Soulforce:
– What does good posture actually mean?
– Why “sitting up straight” may be hurting your body
– The difference between static and dynamic ideas of posture and alignment
– Exploration: The difference between quality and direction of movement
– Exploration: “Slumping up”
– Why redefining your ideas of posture will help you express Soulforce in your performances better
Subscribe to my blog or this YouTube channel to stay tuned! What’s “100 Days of Soulforce”? I’m embarking on a mission to spread the word about Soulforce Performing Arts because I believe it is a needed message for artists of all kinds in our times. To that end, I’m making 100 videos over the coming 100 days (or so) to explain all the different angles and ideas, and to hopefully spark inspiration in you! Each video will have inspirational and practical ideas for you to bring more Soulforce to your life as a performing artist.
These ideas are a part of my upcoming book: “Soulforce Performance Arts: Redefining Artistic Performance, Practice, and Pedagogy in a World That’s Lost Its Mind.”
Subscribers to my newsletter will get early access and special perks. 🙂
