Soulforce Letter — Music, Power, & the Sacred

Plus a fun show on 8/2/25 in Philadelphia and other announcements.

What’s ours to do in these turbulent times? This is something I ponder frequently and is the most common subject of conversation I’ve been having with friends and family recently.

So many of us are feeling overwhelmed, scared, angry, grief-stricken and more. There is a feeling of helplessness. “The rich have all the power and I have none. What can I do to change economic or political policies other than rage on social media and vote every two years?”

This is the subtext I hear under so many conversations. While understandable, it belies the truth that power comes in many forms. Yes, money and poltical influence are a certain kind of power that matters in our world. But they are not the only ones.

They are also not the ones that will lead us to a more beautiful world. The answer to our current turmoil is not a bigger victory of “team good” over “team bad.” Such victories, while tempting, only perpetuate the underlying problem: othering. Look at all the biggest problems in the world: they are all forms of othering. So, if the fundamental problem in our world is othering, will yet more othering truly help?

The answer that keeps coming to me is to look to my own corner of the world. Make my life, my relationships, my projects, my work, my leisure, my environment all as beautiful and harmonious as I can. This is where my power lies — and yours, too.

This is also the answer I put forth in my book, Soulforce. I wrote this book to empower creatives to make more beautiful art and at the same time create a more beautiful world.

The kind of power that I’m interested in doesn’t play by the same conventional rules of force and control that we’re used to. To reach Soulforce, you need to face your challenges from a place of wholeness, aliveness, and connection.

Here’s the hard truth. To make Soulforce more than a nice idea, you need to dive deep into the dark places of your body and soul, courageously heal the wounds that are being activated by the world’s current chaos, and then bring the lessons and creative energy thus released into your life.

I promise you that this journey, while difficult, is entirely worthwhile. I have been doing this work for years and can confidently say that it is the reason why I am now full of creative energy and confidence while so many others are struggling with depression and anxiety.

This journey is what will lead you out of overwhelm and into your own creative inspiration, healing, and greatest contribution to our world. What’s more, the world desperately needs you to do so.

My vision for my Soulforce Arts Institute is to create the training, thought-leadership, and community necessary for as many creatives as possible to successfully complete this journey and put forth their newly inspired creations as healing beacons for our world.

I think this can be done. But I can’t do it alone. Will you join me and be a part of the Soulforce movement?

  • Coming soon: A new way to be a musician. If you’ve been stuck in pain, burnout, or creative block, my new program The Soul’s Sound will guide you home to ease, purpose, and your true sound. Think of it kind of like a musical operating system upgrade. Most approaches try to fix the bugs — pain, blocks, burnout — by adjusting surface settings. But the real change only happens when you upgrade the whole OS. This program resets your nervous system, your beliefs, and your creative connection from the inside out. Stay tuned for more info!
