What does “playing from the heart” really mean? Is it something that only some people have, or happens only sometimes? Or can it be learned and mastered like any other skill? It’s what everybody wants in their performances, but why is it so hard to teach?
“Playing from the heart” can absolutely be learned and taught – you just need to know where to pay attention in yourself as you play: your “inner audience member.” When you play from the heart, you come more alive in yourself as you play, and this is what every audience wants!
Day 5 of 100 Days of Soulforce:
– What *exactly* does it mean to play from the heart?
– Common misconceptions – Intro to your “inner audience member”
– “In order for your performances to transport your audiences, you need to let yourself be transported. The art of playing from the heart lies in exactly this.”
– “Soulforce is being able to stand in your aliveness, even in the midst of the madness of the world.”
– Today’s practice: Listen to some music and get to know your inner audience member’s feelings.

What’s “100 Days of Soulforce”? I’m embarking on a mission to spread the word about Soulforce Performing Arts because I believe it is a needed message for artists of all kinds in our times. To that end, I’m making 100 videos over the coming 100 days (or so) to explain all the different angles and ideas, and to hopefully spark inspiration in you! Each video will have inspirational and practical ideas for you to bring more Soulforce to your life as a performing artist.
These ideas are a part of my upcoming book: “Soulforce Performance Arts: Redefining Artistic Performance, Practice, and Pedagogy in a World That’s Lost Its Mind.” Subscribers to my newsletter will get early access and special perks!
