Playing from the heart is universally desired as performers and as audience members. It’s what brings our performances *alive*, as opposed to being robotic or overly effortful. But how to you actually do it? How do you teach it to your students?
Well, my friends, I’ve figured it out. 🙂
In this video, I share my story of how I figured out what playing from the heart really means and how to teach it to our students.
BONUS! Stick around to the end of the video for a little performance that comes from the heart. Cheers!
Day 10 of 100 Days of Soulforce:

– The conundrum of trying to teach it to students
– How technique is necessary but not sufficient for playing from the heart
– My experiences in Alexander Technique teacher training school
– The crucial violin lesson I taught where my student and I discovered together what it means to play from the heart

What’s “100 Days of Soulforce”? I’m embarking on a mission to spread the word about Soulforce Performing Arts because I believe it is a needed message for artists of all kinds in our times. To that end, I’m making 100 videos over the coming 100 days (or so) to explain all the different angles and ideas, and to hopefully spark inspiration in you! Each video will have inspirational and practical ideas for you to bring more Soulforce to your life as a performing artist.
These ideas are a part of my upcoming book: “Soulforce Performance Arts: Redefining Artistic Performance, Practice, and Pedagogy in a World That’s Lost Its Mind.” Subscribers to my newsletter will get early access and special perks!
